The thesis entitled “Visible Light Communication convergence with 5G network: Performance Optimization and Positioning Protocol” of Ms. Lina Shi, focuses on the integration of Visible-Light-Communication technology with the 5G New Radio (NR) physical layer in order to address spectrum congestion and poor indoor positioning accuracy. The research is part of the European project 5G Internet of Radio Light (5G IoRL) (Grant number: 761992) and was financed by this grant. The thesis focused on a hybrid Visible-Light-Communication (VLC) and Visible-Light-Positioning (VLP) system in convergence with 5G indoor access network. The proposed solution uses visible light of the unlicensed electromagnetic spectrum to support a higher positioning accuracy with low-cost devices such as Light-emitting diodes (LED) and photodiodes as well as data transmission services for future indoor networks.
